The Warmer Homes Scheme provides 100% funded energy upgrades to homeowners who receive certain Department of Social Protection payments and live in a poorly insulated home. SEAI appoints and manages the contractor. Eligible works include attic and wall insulation, heat pump systems, ventilation improvements, draught-proofing, and BER assessment. Since January 2025 the scheme no longer installs new fossil fuel boilers. If a heating system upgrade is recommended, it will be a heat pump or renewable option.
Waiting times: SEAI currently estimates 24–26 months from application to completion, though the rate is improving (7,743 free upgrades completed in 2024 — a 31% increase).
NEW from March 2026: Homeowners on the Warmer Homes waiting list can now access the enhanced individual grants (flat €2,500 attic, €2,300 cavity wall) without losing their place on the Warmer Homes waiting list.
Must receive a qualifying DSP payment such as Fuel Allowance, Working Family Payment, One Parent Family Payment, Carer's Allowance, Disability Allowance, or Jobseeker's Allowance (1+ year). Home must have BER of C or lower.
