The Fossil Fuel Boiler Scrappage Grant was announced on 29 September 2026 as part of the Government's National Energy Affordability Taskforce measures and is effective from 6 October 2026. It is a €2,000 grant paid when an existing oil or gas boiler, solid fuel system or electric storage heating system is removed as part of installing a heat pump. It is also paid to homeowners without central heating who install a heat pump.
It forms part of the heat pump system grant bundle (up to €10,500 heat pump unit + up to €2,000 central heating upgrade works + €2,000 boiler scrappage = up to €14,500). Homeowners who already have an active Heat Pump Grant application, or who have submitted their Declaration of Works and are awaiting payment, will receive the extra €2,000 automatically — no action required.
The grant is not available to homeowners replacing an existing grant-aided heat pump.
Home built and occupied before 2021. Must be installing a heat pump system through a registered SEAI contractor and removing a fossil fuel, solid fuel or electric storage heating system.
